Here at Exeter, we have received the following advice from
the IT services, and I suggest that paragraph 2 in
particular could usefully be followed by anyone sending a
message to afls-news.
"Viruses are extremely good at forging e-mail addresses to
make messages look as if they are from someone you may
know. So, when you receive a message, you must not just
accept the e-mail address from which the message appears to
have been sent. When a message has an attachment, you
should delete it if there is no explanatory text which is
signed by the person corresponding to the e-mail address
shown as the sender.
It follows from the above that when you e-mail an attachment you should always
include text which explains what the attachment is and sign the text with your name.
If you do not do so you should expect the recipient to
delete your message!"
Best wishes
