TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING AND PLANNING
The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto invites
applications for a tenure stream position at the Assistant Professor level in the
area of transportation engineering and planning. The appointment to this
position will be made 1 July 2005, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Candidates from a variety of transportation research specializations are
invited to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant research
contribution within a Transportation group which currently emphasizes urban
transportation systems analysis (both demand and supply related), intelligent
transportation systems, public transport planning, transportation - land use
interactions and sustainable transportation. Applicants with research
interests in freight transportation are particularly encouraged to apply.
The University of Toronto Department of Civil Engineering is committed to
excellence in teaching and interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing
first-order world problems relating to urban infrastructure. The
Transportation group within Civil Engineering is a vital and growing
component of the Departments search for urban solutions for the 21st
Century.
Facilities available within the University of Toronto in support of these
research activities include a $4.3 million Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS) Centre and Testbed and the Joint Program in Transportation. The ITS
testbed consists of a high-end computer laboratory combined with real-time
data and video communication links to city and provincial traffic and transit
management centres. This unique facility within Canada provides an ideal
environment for a wide variety of transportation systems research and the
design of decision-support tools. The Joint Program provides travel data
collection and management services and transport network modelling
capabilities to planning agencies within the Greater Toronto Area, thereby
providing both excellent data and software support to University researchers,
and an excellent working relationship with local planning authorities.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree or equivalent, be eligible for
registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario, and have a demonstrated
commitment to teaching and research in the university environment. The
successful candidate will be expected to conduct research, supervise
graduate students, and teach postgraduate and undergraduate courses in her
or his field of interest and to contribute to the teaching of other engineering
courses at the undergraduate level. Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. Applicants should send a detailed curriculum
