Enigma Project Schools Officer
Salary range: £18,893 - £28,279
Full-time for a fixed term of one year in the first instance, to start at
the beginning of September 2004 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Millennium Mathematics Project, based at the University of Cambridge,
has agreed with Simon Singh to take on the running of the Enigma Schools
Project from September 2004. We are therefore looking for a maths or
science graduate with very strong communication and teaching skills and a
demonstrable interest in education and the popular communication of maths
and science to take the Enigma Project to primary and secondary schools,
demonstrate the Enigma machine, give talks and run hands-on workshops based
around codes and the history of mathematics and codebreaking.
The successful applicant will have a degree in maths, one of the sciences
or a related subject. Some experience of working with school-age children
is essential, preferably in an educational context, and a teaching
qualification or teaching experience would be an advantage. The post will
involve considerable travel throughout the UK and applicants must have
their own transport and a full driving licence.
