Dear Daniela:
I run this test to my first year drawing students:
I write on the blackboard the following:
e f
g h
and say: please copy this.
Most of the results comes expressed like this:
e f g h.
The few clever will do this:
e f
g h
Most of us are trained to see through. Realy seeing is very dificult.
Running this test for the last 5 years never gave me the correct answer
which is organizing the square with the slight unalignment of the "h".
Either people just organize leters in their correct order, or, the fewer
of the fewest just draw a square with the letters. Both actions are seeing
through what is drawn, assuming it to be symbols, and therefore not
wasting time on really seeing.
best regards
Eduardo
