presents:
Objectually Speaking
December 10th -February 6th, 2005
We think of museums, art institutions, and buildings
in general as keeping noise out, minimizing the amount of
external stimuli that can seep inside and cause disruption.
Interiors are generally protected as sort of sanctuaries
where one can escape from the outside world, get away from
the aural chaos of the city, places of quiet and
contemplation. Sound Art, with all its many facets, in
essence breaks this notion of the gallery as temple by
rousing, disturbing, and often directly interacting with
the viewer. Sound art is also in the public mind oftentimes
reduced to an aural immateriality or a performative act,
finding it difficult to position itself within the
established confines of the art world. Objectually Speaking
addresses these issues by presenting the various shapes
Sound Art now takes -by presenting international artists
working with object-installation sound based work,
interactive sound art, as well as music-based sound art.
It attempts to consider sound as a material substance- as
a vital medium within the wider context of contemporary
art production.
Objectually Speaking is the first exhibition dedicated
entirely to sound art to be presented in Prague.
