Interesting thoughts from Sarah regarding context and content
production. I would add that the blurring between content and context
is of course not only restricted to the online sphere, and I feel
Marc's comments (which I broadly agree with) point to how symposia can
be perceived as a situation where context becomes content, or for the
organiser/curator as he eloquently states: "a way of sculpting
something using context as a palette".
Thinking of symposia in this way, regardless of what else is going on
(exhibitions, performances, events etc.) the organiser can be seen as
"playing a very complex creative role", as Peter puts it. That several
of us in this discussion have come to equate that with the term
'curating' is clear, and to my mind a welcome interpretation of the
term.
cheers
