dear list,
i wanted to mention a another book, albeit decidedly
less controversial, that might be of interest to those
of you following and/or driving this discussion.
"Culture Gates: Exposing Professional Gatekeeping
Processes in Music and New Media Arts" 2002/3
basically it is the culmination of a 15 month
trans-national research project that includes
interviews (artist and curators), workshop reports,
and texts that reflect upon "their (gate keepers)
potential and power to facilitate (or prevent) social
and cultural change through the distribution and flow
of certain ideas."
it is an incredibly unique and thought provoking
publication. however, i have not seen a lot of press
with regards to it . . . so i thought it might be
worthwhile to mention here.
best,
kathleen
