Electrohype 2004 - Conference, Malmö, Sweden, November 28 and 29

Electrohype is organizing a two day conference with following theme:
Experimental electronic art in the Nordic region
  - recent history and current conditions

A topic that has been frequently discussed the past years is the
conditions for the electronic art in the Nordic countries. If you
look at this topic from the perspective of the Nordic "gold age" in
electronic art in the 60s to the 80s, there are certain peculiar
features. Back then artists from other countries came to Scandinavia
to participate in the experiments performed with art and technology.
The environment was playful and new and exiting art was created.
Today the situation is the opposite, Nordic artists are traveling
abroad to Germany, USA and Canada to find a creative environment and
opportunity to exhibit their art.

The aim of this conference is to draw historical lines and look for
specific causes that might have influenced this development.
Furthermore we will in a contemporary perspective investigate if
there are specific questions that we can focus on. Questions that
might give answers to how we can provide a good and durable
environment for contemporary electronic art.

Note that the conference has a maximum of 100 participants and that
the conference will be held in English. Last date for registration is
November 18th 2004.

Day one will be dedicated to the recent history of electronic art.
The discussion will focus on prominent similarities and differences
between the Nordic countries regarding electronic art. The day will
conclude with a guided tour in the exhibition Electrohype 2004 in
Malmö Konsthall.

Day two will deal with the current conditions for those who are
working with electronic and computer based art today. The aim is to
look at the current situation for artists, institutions and
organizations. The day will conclude with a longer panel and open
discussion.

The persons invited to give talks and presentations at the conference
have all key positions in the various fields of electronic art. They
also represent a wide range of disciplines within the genre itself.
