Have you seen 'Canal Inclines and Lifts' by David Tew, published 1984? John
Blanchfield has a copy in his latest catalogue.
I spent a long time trying to work out the arrangements on the Gonamena
incline of the Liskeard & Caradon Railway, a little to the west of you, but
came to no firm decision. I didn't go as far as an archaeological
excavation but in the total absence of any documentary sources concluded
that a wooden headframe, perhaps like a horse whim, was used.
