On the basis that the simplest questions are often the hardest to answer,
can anyone help me with the following:-
When did the NCB become British Coal?
I and two or three others came up with a range of dates from 1986 to 1987
and, with some effort I've found that the National Coal Board began trading
under the name British Coal on April 28th 1986 (following a speech by Ian
'plastic bag' MacGregor). It remained as the NCB for legal purposes until
the Government was able to change the name by legislation. I suspect that
the Government got round to doing that in 1987 (hence that date appearing in
some sources) and have found that there was a Coal Industry Act 1987. Does
anyone know if that was the case?
