Barry,
We approached Smithy level from the east and went directly to the
building at Smithy.
We didn't have time to explore but are aware of a lower level.
When we go back we'll park up at the Askrigg road nearer the mine and have a
full look around.
Thanks for the info, now we know to look for three levels.
Why is the lower level walled up? Is it a water supply?
Is it dry walled or cemented?
George
