Hello Rafat
One thing you might consider for qualified midwives who want to further
their professional education, at least until you have more provision
developed in Pakistan, is that there are masters level courses in
midwifery available on a distance learning/online basis at Thames Valley
University, London and Sheffield University in the UK. They are taught
in English, but our course at TVU is intended to include midwives
internationally and we generally have a very nice mix of midwives from
different parts of the world taking the course. We aim to include
perspectives and issues from all the students' home countries in the
course, and most choose to work on issues particularly relevant to their
own country or place of work for their dissertation. Masters courses can
be useful to midwives wanting to further their professional, management,
clinical or academic practice.

Subject: Re: Midwifery and LHV Higher Education
Dear colleagues:
In Pakistan we have two kinds of models of midwifery teaching, one is
direct entry from the schools and other is after completion of general
nursing.
In direct entry of midwifery programme, we have 13 months training in
midwifery and 18 months (approx. 2 years) of Lady Heath Visitors (LHV)
training. LHV training includes the first year of midwifery and second
year of preventive health. These are pre-partition models and remained
same to date in Pakistan. However, midwives and LHV then remain on same
grades and posting until they retire. We are now looking to work towards
their higher education of experienced midwives and LHVs to upgrade their
positions and grades. Further they will enter into leadership position
of midwifery and LHV in nation, which currently does not exist. Any one
of you had any experience with up gradation of midwifery or LHVs
education please let me know. We would highly appreciate your help and
guidance in upgrading of midwifery and LHV education.
