BIOME Newsletter Summer 2004 Issue 10
New Internet Resource Booklet
An updated and reprinted version of our ever popular "Internet Resources for Health and Medicine" booklet is now available in time for the new academic year. This free 16 page booklet (produced with the support of The Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine) gives a flavour of the many resources within the OMNI and NMAP Gateways.
If you would like copies of the booklet, instructions for ordering are available from http://biome.ac.uk/about/publications.html, where this booklet is also available for downloading in PDF format.
New BIOME and Gateway Fliers
In addition to our new Internet resource booklet, new and revamped Gateway and BIOME leaflets are hot off the press. All of our fliers are available free of charge for distribution amongst your students and staff and describe the main features of our services. Please go to http://biome.ac.uk/about/publications.html for details of how to order and for PDF copies for you to print out or download.
Win Blackwell's and Amazon Vouchers!
BIOME is committed to providing a user-responsive service. To inform our development plans, an online questionnaire will be appearing on the BIOME site in September and October. Each month six lucky respondents will be picked at random to win £30 worth of Blackwell's or Amazon vouchers.
BIOME Reaches 25,000 Resources!
The BIOME database continues to grow and develop and now contains over 25,000 records. To see the weekly additions go to BIOME "What's New"

BIOME Straight to Your Desktop
We continue to develop new features for the BIOME website. The latest feature to be added to the site is an RSS newsfeed of the latest headlines from BIOME. RSS allows news headlines to be shared between different websites; they can be embedded directly into your own or you institutional web page very simply.
The BIOME Search Box can also quickly and easily be placed on your sites, allowing you to search across the BIOME internet resource catalogues from within your own website. RSS feeds giving the latest additions to the BIOME subject gateways are in development and will be made available shortly.
Details on these services can be found at http://biome.ac.uk/about/contribute.html
Resource Guide for Health and Life Sciences
It is with regret that we announce that the popular Resource Guide for the Health and Life Sciences initiative ended on the 31st of July 2004.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the two Resource Guide Advisers for the Health and Life Sciences - Jo Badge and Rachael Stacey - for all their hard work and dedication to the Initiative and we wish them all the best for the future.
The project has been a great success in raising the awareness of electronic resources with thousands of printed guides distributed, thousands of hits a month to the online website, and many talks and presentations given at both national and international conferences across the country. In particular the series of Roadshows held around the UK and Scotland in spring and summer of 2004 were highly successful and produced excellent feedback.
BIOME hopes to run at least three further sessions, in close partnership with local librarians, over the coming year. If you would be interested in helping us run a roadshow in your area then please get in touch with Donald Mackay, BIOME Service Manager - [log in to unmask]
The team at BIOME can also come to your institution to provide you with information and practical sessions on using BIOME and its gateways, covering aspects such as what BIOME and the gateways are, what they can do for you, how to get the best out of them, and pointers to other useful resources including the Virtual Training Suite. We can focus the session down onto one gateway, or more, depending on your subject interests. We will come to your institution; you provide the training facilities - basically an Internet-connected machine per person / pair - and we bring the materials and presentations.
