CALL FOR PAPERS.
BRITISH SOCIETY FOR POPULATION STUDIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2004
UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER 13-15 SEPTEMBER 2004
The plenary theme of the Conference will be Ethnicity, refugees, and group
conflict, particularly those aspects of interest to demographers,
population scientists, geographers and statisticians. Plenary papers are
by invitation of the Society and plenary speakers will be announced
shortly.
Papers for Conference Strands are invited across the demographic subject
spectrum. They are welcome on topics related to the plenary theme, but are
also specifically invited on the subjects of: fertility, families and
households, local planning and census issues, HIV/AIDS , reproductive
health, health, morbidity and mortality, migrant populations, internal
migration, population ageing, methods (quantitative and qualitative) and
models, projections, and historical demography. Where there is no specific
strand organiser for any of these topics, please submit to the strand
organiser that you consider most appropriate. Posters are also invited for
the poster session and posters will be displayed throughout the Conference.
There will be a prize of £100 in book tokens for the best poster
presentation - to be judged by one of the plenary speakers.
Preliminary abstracts of papers - which can be in the form of a declaration
of intent - of up to 250 words, plus their provisional title, should be
submitted by 14th May 2004 to strand organisers.
NOTES
A maximum of 2 papers to be submitted per author, please.
Strand organisers will notify authors of provisional acceptance of papers.
An abstract of approximately 250 words for provisionally accepted papers
will need to be submitted by 31 May 2004, and the paper presenter will be
asked to register formally for the Conference before the paper is finally
accepted and included in the programme.
Please note that attendance at the Conference cannot be subsidised by the
BSPS, except where student bursaries are granted (student members only).
Bursaries:
Bursaries will be available to student members of the BSPS who are
presenting papers or posters at the Conference. These are expected to cover
the costs of registration and accommodation, together with an allowance for
travel within the UK only (the BSPS cannot cover the cost of international
travel). As the number of bursaries available may be limited, applications
must be received at the Secretariat by 14th May 2004. Please apply either
