Hallo Val, here are some references that might be helpful.
"The Sociology of the professions", by Keith M. Macdonald. SAGE, 1995,
Ann Witz, ,,Professions and Patriarchy" Routledge, 1992 is also a must in
my opinion when travelling in the area of professionalism,
Michel Foucault, ,,The birth of the clinic" is a classic and
Ivan Illich's, ,,Medical Nemesis" another one,
and then Donald A. Schön has written two books, "The Reflective
Practitioner, how professionals think in action" and "Educating the
reflective practitioner" that may be helpful to you.
Good luck
Bestu kveðjur
Hildur K.

Subject: sociology of occupations
Does any one have suggestions for references looking at 1]emotional work
2]the sociology of occupations
3]Rhetoric vs reality of midwifery.
I am working on my dissertation examining the experience and expectations of
MCAs [Maternity Care Assistants]as seen by midwives, MCAs, managers and
obstetricians.
Any assistance will be gratefully received.
