Dear Malcolm and list members
I was very pleased to hear this news. As a member of a CHC over the past 10
years and chair of Camden CHC since 2000, I am very much aware of the
excellent and unique work carried out by many CHCs. It is extremely
important that this valuable archive is not lost, and I hope it will be used
by many researchers.
With particular regard to the members of the midwifery list, it is worth
noting that maternity matters were often kept high on the agenda of CHCs as
voluntary sector members of CHCs were often nominated by groups such as
local branches of the National Childbirth Trust or the Association for
Improvements in Maternity Services. As an example, one of the last major
projects of Camden CHC was to commission a research study of local women's
experiences of childbirth, which was published as the report 'It's Your
Baby', launched one year ago by local MP Glenda Jackson. I hope at least one
copy of this is in the archives!
With best regards
Elizabeth Duff
former chair Camden CHC
