PhD Bursary and Scholarship in Spanish
One Graduate Bursary and one Graduate Scholarship are available in the
School of English and Modern Languages for applicants who wish to pursue
their MPhil/PhD studies in Spanish starting in February 2005. The Spanish
programme has particular strengths in the areas of: cinema, postcolonial
studies, nationalism, gender and ethnicity, translation studies.
Applications are invited in the research areas of:
- Spanish and Spanish American cinema.
- Ethnicity, gender and feminism in contemporary Spain and Latin America
- Memory, nationalism and national identities in Spain and Latin America
- Translation (especially screen translation)
Applicants in all areas should have or expect to gain at least an upper
second-class degree in a relevant discipline. Holding a Masters degree and
having some teaching experience would be advantageous. The successful
candidate would be expected to take part in the activities of the Hispanic
Research Centre and to undertake a small amount of teaching and/or
administrative responsibilities in consultation with the Convenor of the
Spanish Programme.
Overseas applicants must meet the required minimum English Language level
(IELTS 7 in all bands, or equivalent). The Graduate Bursary consists of a
maintenance allowance of £10,500 plus tuition fee waiver for a three-year
period (subject to satisfactory progress). The Graduate Scholarship
entails the waiving of fees (at the Home and EU rate) for a three-year
period (subject to satisfactory progress).
