CILIP APPOINTS NEW HEAD OF COMMERCIAL ARM
New Managing Director sees strong opportunities for growth
CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals,
has announced that John Woolley will be the new Managing Director of CILIP
Enterprises, the Institute's commercial arm. Heading up a clutch of
operations that includes Facet Publishing, the Update and Gazette magazines
and the INFOmatch recruitment agency, as well as CILIP's conference
management, advertising, consultancy and training services, John will take
up his post on 6th September.
With a career path that encompasses magazine, reference and online
publishing, training and development consultancy, and the organisation and
presentation of conferences and events, John is exceptionally well
qualified to take over CILIP Enterprises' portfolio of businesses. "I have
had a close involvement with the information community through my
management roles in several blue-chip publishing and event businesses, and
direct experience of many of the business areas being served by CILIP
Enterprises," he says, "And there's a great deal here that can be taken
forward, meeting the needs both of CILIP members and the wider information
community."
He replaces Janet Liebster, who retires this summer. Welcoming John's
appointment, CILIP's Chief Executive Bob McKee also paid tribute to Janet's
achievement in building up CILIP Enterprises from scratch and turning it
into the Institute's main revenue earner. "Janet has done a superb job
over 10 years as CILIP Enterprises' first and only MD," he said. "She has
been instrumental in building a really sound foundation for CILIP's
commercial activities."
Acknowledging that Janet's will be a hard act to follow, John Woolley
nevertheless sees strong opportunities for growth in the business, both in
the UK and overseas. "There couldn't be a more interesting and challenging
time to be taking on a job like this," he says. "The enormous changes
taking place in the library and information community are reflected in
developments at CILIP - and especially CILIP Enterprises."
John has a track record in working successfully in organisations of
comparable size to CILIP, and with a similar range of operations. "I
relish identifying opportunities and growing them with people," he says.
"I enjoy teamwork - the right spirit, the right objectives, working hard to
drive the business forward, but enjoying it and feeling valued at the same
time."
