Searching the Internet: Google and beyond
-----------------------------------------
(or "What do you mean you didn't use Google?")
to be held at Netskills Training Suite, Newcastle Upon Tyne,
Wednesday, 29th September 2004, 9.30 – 16.30

Costs (including lunch and refreshments):

188.00)

Course Outline
--------------
Google isn't the only search engine and all too often we would be better
off taking a completely different approach to searching for information.
The aim of this workshop is to provide delegates with an essential
toolkit to help them search more effectively and will include key search
tools, tips and techniques.

Topics to be covered:

* different types of search tools and how they work
* virtual libraries, evaluated listings, portals, databases
* what the search engines miss - the "invisible web"
* making the most of Google and alternatives to Google
* advanced search techniques
* tracking down pages that have disappeared
* assessing the quality of the information that you find
* Top 10 search tips

A significant part of the day will be taken up with practical sessions;
exercises will be provided but delegates are free to try out searches of
their own. The techniques and approaches described in this workshop can
be applied to all subject areas.
