CILIP AT THE LONDON BOOK FAIR 2004

Leading professional body offers special facilities for librarians and information managers and presents three topical Executive Briefings at Olympia next month

Intellectual property, Open Access and services for the very young will all be put under the microscope at a series of Executive Briefings, specially organised for the London Book Fair by CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. In addition, CILIP members visiting the UK's premier book trade event will find a special lounge at Olympia, provided exclusively for them.

"Publishers and booksellers recognise that library and information professionals are especially important to them, and that's why they are receiving more attention than ever this year," comments Janet Liebster, Managing Director of CILIP Enterprises. "We're very pleased to be working with the London Book Fair to ensure that our Members in particular have all the support they need when visiting the show."

Facet Publishing, CILIP's publishing arm, will be featuring its new catalogue of 2004 titles on stand H110 at Olympia, and CILIP will also be supporting library and information professionals with a special CILIP Lounge. Located in the Gallery Suite of the Grand Hall, it will offer CILIP members and their guests a quiet area for meetings, or simply space for a few minutes' relaxation away from the hubbub of the exhibition halls. Full Internet access will be available in the Lounge, allowing members to catch up with their emails or surf the web.
CILIP is also participating fully in LBF's events programme, with three half-day Executive Briefing sessions, one on each of the show's three days. In 'Know your patents from your copyright: a signpost to intellectual property' (Sunday), experts representing publishers, authors, visual artists, library and information workers and patents officers will advise on legal, technical and social issues relating to collective copyright, patents and licensing matters. 'Open Access: threat or opportunity' (Monday) offers the chance to find out about the pros and cons surrounding the 'open access' approach to electronic journal publishing, explaining how librarians might deal with the surrounding issues and where suppliers stand. And 'All join in...from rhyme times to a life time of reading' (Tuesday), will show how libraries and library & information staff are supporting small children and their parents to discover the pure fun and enjoyment of sharing books together. For more details about each Executive Briefing and information on how to book, visit www.cilip.org.uk/training_events/treb.html.

A special form has been designed to give library and information professionals fast track registration for the show, or you can register online by going to www.lbf-virtual.com <http://www.lbf-virtual.com>. Pre-registered library and information professionals can enter the show free of change, saving the entire £25 entrance fee. CILIP is an official supporter of the London Book Fair, which takes place at Olympia from Sunday 14 to Tuesday 16 March.
