I've been groping for good analogies, but have failed to think of any. So
here's a bad one. Prisoners are not the prison, but
nor are the prison authorities. The great secret of the prison system is
that it depends on the co-operation of the incarcerated.

To push that in a slightly different direction, I always feel one should not
collaborate with one's own oppression. In this respect the CILIP hierarchy
(them again), by eg accepting poverty-level job ads, is letting us (and
themselves) down, and sending the message that we don't really mind.
