As you know, our host JISC does not usually allow messages of a commercial
nature to be posted on the list. However, given the recent correspondence
about the Encyclopaedia of Islam on CD-Rom, I am posting some new
information about the online version of EI2, as supplied by Brill.
"The Online edition will offer all alphabetical entries of the current
print edition of the Encyclopaedia of Islam (Volumes I - XI, A-Z). In
addition to the alphabetical volumes, a supplement volume is planned for
mid-2004 and an Index volume is due for publication in 2005. Print
subscribers will receive these two final volumes as part of their
subscription. Both supplementary and Index material are being added to
the Online edition as soon they become available.
Our plan for the Encyclopaedia of Islam going forwards...
In 2005, Brill will begin publication of the 3rd, new edition of the
Encyclopaedia of Islam in print. With its expanded scope and
international editorial board, the 3rd edition will maintain the
Encyclopaedia's position as the key reference work in the field.
Customers who subscribe to the Encyclopaedia of Islam Online and who
also continue their print subscriptions to the Encyclopaedia will be
entitled to a special renewal price for the online edition of Euro 1000
/ $ 1000 in 2005.
Entries from the 3rd print edition will be added to the Encyclopaedia of
Islam Online as they become available, offering users access to both the
entire 2nd edition as well as the 3rd edition as it develops.
