Jeremy, why do you assume that Trust wage bills will rise? Given the financial situation, surely maintaining the status quo is the unspoken goal, if not small reductions. The wide range of salaries within each band, as well as overlapping salaries between bands, will mean that inequities/differences in pay can continue; therefore, it will not necessarily follow that many people will receive a pay rise as a result of AfC.

Amongst all the discussion about this, job profiles etc, have I missed something? Given that Trust wage bills will rise after implementation, how will this rise be funded? Has the government promised money? If not, and in the context of the dire financial straits many Trusts are already in, am I the only one to predict swingeing cuts in NHS ancillary staff as Trusts struggle to meet the costs?
