Course Contents
There is now a considerable amount of evidence to show that usability is a
key issue in effective access to web resources, whether through a web site,
library portal or an intranet. In parallel organisations are also becoming
aware of their responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act,
and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act to provide accessible
web resources.
The course will cover:
• Basic principles of usability testing
• Similarities and differences between web sites, intranets and
portals
• An introduction to the main usability tests - heuristic evaluation,
cognitive walk-throughs, task-based testing
• Designing and budgeting for usability tests
• The Web Accessibility Initiative guidelines (WAI)
• Resources on usability and accessibility
There will be an opportunity to do some practical assessment of web sites,
though not on an individual basis
