A Day in the Life of an E-Resources Publisher

This one-day seminar is aimed at librarians, information specialists, and
other players in the electronic resource supply chain seeking to find out
more about publishing in the electronic world.  The seminar is being hosted
by Oxford University Press, whose representatives will describe the
development of different types of online resource with the objective of
improving understanding of the publishing process within the context of a
digital environment.  Each speaker will add the knowledge that their own
individual experiences have provided, giving a comprehensive view of
publishing in the electronic age.  A customer completes the picture by
describing their experience of providing such e-resources for their user
community.

Before the online revolution kicked in:  After this brief overview of the
dynamics of online publishing, why not take the opportunity for some quick
insights into what has made publishing tick over the last 500 years or so.

 

Either: Tour 1 - OUP Museum (maximum 15 places)

See the excellent museum at the Press, which plots the history of OUP (and
indeed publishing) over the last 500 years.  There are some great exhibits,
and the curator offers a lively accompanying talk.

 

Or: Tour 2 - OED (maximum 5 places)

See the current archives of millions of quotation slips, learn how the OED
revision process ‘conveyor belt’ operates, see editors at work, and,
finally, hear about OED Online.
