Sandra
I have been chasing the whole CUP and off campus issue with Nesli since the middle of November. Apart from obviously wanting Athens for CUP titles, my main concern was the message that a user gets when link off campus from Swets or Ebsco to a CUP title. They are taken to CUP page and get this message
"Access Error. You do not have access to that component. If this problem persists please contact Customer Services by
clicking on the Contact us button at the top of the screen"
Nesli got back to me to say they had contacted CUP and were not happy with their answer. I chased again last week and got this reply from Nesli:
" I can tell you that CUP was contacted by us in December and they indicated then that they 'did not have firm dates for Athens
implementation' although it is high on their agenda. We asked them in the meantime to amend their wording for users to provide a more 'friendly' message, but CUP did not confirm whether they would do this. We are contacting them again for further information."
It is my preference to link through Swets for individual titles. Because of the error message I have always linked straight to CUP for the 20+ titles we used to have (and users do have to do exactly what you said which defeats the purpose of direct URLS) However all CUP titles are available now in Swets for EH, and if a user happens to find jnl/article that way they will of course get this error message
Finally, I also emailed CUP last week because now when go into CUP as an Edge hill user, it has institutional access (as before) against our existing 20+ titles but free access against the Nesli titles. I have asked them to change the wording on that because of course these jnls are not free - we have paid for them.
I am sorry for length of this email but the CUP collection is one we have wanted for quite a while and as things stand I do not see how I can publicise it to our users, I have refrained from adding titles to our library system until the "error message" is removed and I know which URLS to use.

Can I ask how others deal with off-campus access to CUP web site?
Our ejournals lists give direct links to CUP titles individually
Eg for Cambridge Law Journal
www.journals.cambridge.org/journal_TheCambridgeLawJournal
If the on-campus user clicks on the desired issue, the list of articles
is displayed with PDF option.
However, if off-campus each article only gives 'abstract' and 'add to
basket' option (with a price). The user then needs to know that they
need to find the rather small 'log-in' button, use the special CUP
username and password, then find the journal again eg by clicking the
drop-down arrow next to the 'Browse journals' box and selecting
'alphabetically' or 'subscribed journals'.
Is there any easier way?
Thanks very much
Sandra
