Dear Colleagues,
I am going to write a book entitled "Battle of Maps" concerning border
between two countries. It will be in my own native language, Nepali.
Does anyone furnish me some information on the battle of maps of various
countries of the world, especially India's map battle with China, Nepal,
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka etc ?
I would like to cite an example on the battle of maps. There is a boundary
dispute and controversy between Nepal and India over the location of
Kalapani, with an area of 372 sk. km. The question is whether Kalapani area
belongs to Nepal or India ?
Regarding this question: during the meeting of India-Nepal Joint Working
Group on 17 July 1998, Nepal proposed to take the maps of 1850 and 1856 as
the working materials to be used by the joint survey team. But the Indian
side argued that these maps are irrelevant and unscientific as well.
Instead, they claimed that the maps prepared during 1879 and 1928/29 must be
taken as basic working materials to the field. In reply, Nepal pleaded that
those maps are baseless. In such a fashion the joint meeting ended without a
decision.
I would appreciate, if anybody provides me information on the battle of maps
of various countries of the world. Thank you for your co-operation.
Best regards,
