I had cause recently to investigate an aria from Semele which does not
appearing the Novello abridged vocal score. I was delighted that Peter
Linnitt, from his studies in a previous life, was able to offer the solution
- the 1971 OUP edition, edited Anthony Lewis and Charles Mackerras
(0193367106).
Perhaps I am uniquely unfortunate in not possessing this edition (published
before even *my* time in Somerset). Simon Wright informs me that it became
O/P in 1996 and is not scheduled for re-publication. There seems to be no
currently-available vocal score edition of the complete unabridged version
(I understand that at Dartington this year a King's Music edition was used
but I have been unable to get confirmation of its continuing retail
availability).
The OUP edition could be reprinted to order, but at a price. The unit price
could be reduced to c. £30.00 if there were orders for, say, 50 copies.
This, therefore, is in fond hope that there might be 49 of you out there who
might also be glad of an opportunity to buy this vocal score. If you're
interested, can you let me know and I'll collate any expressions of
interest.
Regards,
Roger
PS: Incidentally, I'm not on commission.
Just a young & foolish optimist.
OK, lied about the young bit.
