Hi Morag
You'll probably get a barrage of replies to this one. With my orchestra hat
on, I use a set of books I purchased some years ago from the NFMS (now
Making Music of course)
There seem to be updated versions still available on their website:
http://www.makingmusic.org.uk/html/262.shtml
I have found them extremely useful over the years.

Subject: Scoring
Dear all,
A quick question - what is the best printed source for checking the scoring
of works? I've used a variety of publications in the past (the BBC
catalogues, the union catalogue of orchestral sets), but am wondering if
there is something out there that we don't have in stock. I say printed as
the enquiry relates to an orchestra who are having a programme planning
committee, and thought it would be useful to have a book on hand that they
could refer to in order to check which works were feasible.
Many thanks if anyone has any suggestions!
Morag
