MIDIRS and The Royal College of Nursing unite in providing health
professionals with greater access to maternity related information
MIDIRS is pleased to announce the launch of a major collaboration with The
Royal College of Nursing.
This important new venture, the first of its kind for both organisations,
will allow RCN members full access to MIDIRS IA, a unique database
consisting of over 100,000 records of articles, book chapters, reports and
other publications relating to maternity, pregnancy, childbirth, postnatal
health, breastfeeding, and early infant care. Access will be available from
the RCN’s e-library via their website www.rcn.org.uk.
Until now, access to the MIDIRS database has only been available to
personal subscribers. In comparison, MIDIRS IA, the name given to the
institutional access service, allows nurses, midwives and other healthcare
professionals to locate abstracts and links to full text articles.
Andy Fisher, Business Manager of MIDIRS, said:
“I am delighted that the Royal College of Nursing and MIDIRS have been able
to collaborate in the development of this unique new service. I see this as
an important breakthrough in providing wider access to maternity related
information for all healthcare professionals. The service makes it quicker
and easier for RCN members to gain access to the latest available maternity
related publications, research and data. This project is also a significant
step towards meeting one of MIDIRS key objectives, which is to facilitate
the improvement of maternity care by the effective use of information
services”
Jackie Lord, Head of Library and Information Services at the RCN said:
“We are very pleased to give RCN members free access to this excellent
resource via the RCN website. In addition to midwives, this product will be
useful to student nurses, those interested in women’s health, early infant
care, and many others”.
Full details about the database’s features and functionality are available
from www.midirs.org/ia. Alternatively, email [log in to unmask] or call Matt
Penton on
