Following a successful bid to the prestigious European Framework Six Programme, applications are invited from candidates holding a PhD (or expecting the imminent award of one) in geodesy/ computing/electronic engineering or a closely related discipline. The appointee will join the Geomatics and Water Resources Research Group and carry out research into the development of GPS monitoring technologies together with analysis algorithms for the utilisation of GPS observations for (near-) real-time positioning and deformation monitoring of landslide risk areas. The research will focus on instrumentation development, through component integration and interface development, and application to the precise determination of horizontal and vertical motions of the Earth's crust and structures on the Earth.
The position is available from 1 November 2004, for one year in the first instance but with the expectation of continuation depending on funding and performance. Salary will be at an appropriate point on the RA1B/RA1A Scales (£19,460 - £29,128 per annum), according to qualifications and experience.
