CALL FOR PAPERS
The Second Christina Conference Gender, Religion, and Theory in Dialogue
University of Helsinki, Finland, March 3-5, 2005
Organised by the Christina Institute for Women´s Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and the research project Gender, Body, and Ethics in Late Christian Culture and Theology of the Academy of Finland
The conference is intended to focus on theoretical questions on both issues of religion and gender, understood broadly as philosophical, theological, cultural and social phenomena. Thus, we will welcome papers from theology, comparative religion, history, social sciences, feminist studies, and other fields. The main interest of the organisers is in looking at religion(s) from feminist and gender perspectives as well as feminist studies from the perspective of scholarship of religion, stemming from a felt need for a more critical theoretical dialogue between the two. How is religion being dealt with by feminist theorists? How are issues of gender and sexuality theorised within studies of religion?
Our keynote speakers cover mainly the three monotheistic religions, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. However, papers dealing with other religious traditions as well as popular and folk religions are welcomed.
Keynote speakers:
Dr. Inger Hammar, University of Lund, Sweden
