I don't know what you mean by "modified the coordinates of
the data". In general, using mri_convert and avwmerge sounds
like a good solution.
I'm also afraid that I don't know the status of Talairach
coordinate viewing in AFNI for Analyze images. You can get
coordinates in FSL by using FSLView or img2talcoord but I'm
afraid they are the only options.
