Module 1 of Tate Tools launched 23 September
Tate Tools (http://www.tatetools.com) is a growing library of teaching
resources for Key Stages 2 and 3 of the National Curriculum for England
and Wales. Tate Tools offers high quality learning to support the art
curriculum.
The Tate Tools library will add three new Modules per year – resources
that help bring to life key curriculum points by using Tate’s vast
collections and expertise. All materials have been developed by Tate
educators with the help of educational multimedia experts EBC Ltd.
All Tate Tools Modules are PowerPoint presentations ready to use with an
interactive whiteboard, computer projector or standard display. They
include:
• Video conversations with curators, educators and children
• Teachers’ notes to help prepare lessons
• Investigation Sheets to help students take notes and consolidate
their thinking
• Questions and activities to test knowledge and inspire discussion
In 2004, Tate Tools will launch the following three Modules:
Module 1 – Looking At and Thinking About Art
This module asks children to think about art – what it is and what it is
not. It includes video discussions with a curator, educators and children
and explores different art media and genres. Group activities and
questions encourage classroom discussion.
Module 2 – Visiting a Gallery (available October 2004)
This module explores the ways works of art are displayed to the public and
provides a structure for a visit to a gallery. It includes videos with
curators, art handling technicians, artists, conservators, educators and
children, plus activities and discussion questions.
Module 3 – Sketching in the Gallery (available November 2004)
This module investigates sketching, encouraging children to think about
what a sketch book is used for and what materials can be used. Videos,
group activities and discussion questions round out the learning
experience.
Tate Tools is especially suited to classes with access to Broadband, high
speed Internet and Interactive Whiteboards, but the resources can also be
used with standard PowerPoint display or printed out to be used as
teachers wish.
E-Learning Credits (ELCs) can be used to purchase the annual subscription
to Tate Tools. A special introductory price of £60 (plus VAT) per year
will allow teachers to access Tate Tools’ growing library of resources.
To take advantage of this offer, teachers should register at
(http://www.tatetools.com/registration.asp) before Christmas 2004. After
this, the standard fee will be £90 (plus VAT) per year.
