Because its the sender that has the contract with PO and claims
compensation for items lost / damaged.
BT included the 0800 REVERSE charge in the chronological list of call
charges on their bill for my home phone - so felt it was reasonable that
they refund me and in turn apply to 0800 REVERSE for the proportion paid to
If I return a faulty item to a shop, they give me all my money back and
(presumably) take the matter up with their supplier / wholesaler? I don't
expect to have to go all the way back through the production process to
the grape-picker in the vineyard for a refund on a corked bottle!
