A relatively senior civil servant once told me that the trick to writing
to your MP wasn't to actually ask *them* to do anything. Instead you
should instruct your MP to as *some other MP* to do something.
Apparently MPs have to take requests from other MPs more seriously
than from their constituents. And your own MP will be happy to help out
because it's not him doing the work.
