From time to time we receive correspondence from the local NHS requesting
confirmation as follows:
"Part of our work in detecting fraud in the NHS involves checking the
accuracy of declarations made by patients claiming exemption from charges
for ophthalmic services. Please could you confirm whether the patient(s)
named on the attached form(s) were full time students at your College at
the time of the claims. Please return the completed form(s) to me in the
envelope provided".
Enclosed with the request would be a form to the optician 'NHS optical
voucher and patient's statement' indicating that the person completing the
form is a full time student aged 16, 17, 18.
With regards to the DPA is it ok to give out this information i.e.
confirming the student was enrolled? Should there be some procedure in
place for these types of requests (a form filled out)?
Apologies my knowledge of the DPA is limited and I'm new to this role.
Regards - Art
