High level European workshop on good public national and
regional policies in support of the competitiveness of the
ICT sector in the EU
Brussels, Belgium
The benchmarking initiative on national and regional policies to stimulate the competitiveness of the ICT sector, launched by the European Commission in January 2004 is reaching to an end. The draft final report will be published on 29 October 2004 and will present a number of good government practices in stimulating the competitiveness of the ICT sector. In view of the completion of this study, a high-level European Workshop is organised. The objective of this workshop is to present the findings of the study, examples of good policies and critical factors for success and further discuss future measures to stimulate the competitiveness of the ICT sector.The report will be finalised after the workshop, reflecting the workshop's results.

Technology-enhanced learning information day
Luxembourg
The next call for proposals for research projects in technology-enhanced learning will be launched mid November 2004. The call will cover strategic ojectives defined in the up-dated version of the IST work programme for 2005-2006. In the field technology-enhanced learning, focus of research will be on exploring interactions between the learning of the individual and that of the organisation, and on contributing to new understandings of the learning processes by exploring links between human learning, cognition and technologies. Potential proposers can attend this information day. It aims at building consensus on trends and challenges in future research on technology-enhanced learning, at developing better understanding of the FP6 instruments, sharing ideas and experiences, and helping to find partners for project consortia. Registration is free of charge.

Future European Research in Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT) (26 October 2004)
The European Commission services responsible for the management of the Information Society Technologies (IST) thematic priority in the EU's Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (RTD) have drawn up a document as a starting point to explore the views of a broad set of interested parties on the future of European research in ICT. The document highlights the crucial role played by ICT in economy and society. It shows that RTD is key to mastering, assimilating and exploiting these technologies, and it proposes objectives and priorities for European ICT research. All interested parties are invited to comment on the future of European ICT research, and in particular on the issues addressed in the document. The Commission services will analyse the first set of comments starting from mid-November 2004.
