Hugh, Ive been very interested in the potential of communitiesof
practice in maternity services, as self-organising systems with high
connectivity, so I will read this with great interest. I think there are
some settings (such as free-standing birth centres) where communities of
practice do operate, and we are actively researching this (indirectly)
currently.
All the best
Soo

MessageGreetings from someone who spends most of their time lurking.
Sorry can't make 20th May.
Life at the moment is hectic - nGMS contract, Consultant contract
etc,etc
Most of my 'learning' time is presently being consumed by a masters
degree I've embarked on.
In case anyone is interested I've attached a copy of my last assignment
looking at the Collaborative initiative and Communities of Practice -
influenced quite a bit by Paul Bate's work, and drawing on some of the
knowledge mx stuff and a bit of Ralph Stacey's recent thinking.
It feels a bit presumptuous to circulate it - but it might be of
interest.
Regards
Hugh

Subject: Complexity and Education: Tufton Meeting 20th May 2004
Dear All,
Just to remind you that a Tufton group meeting concerning 'Complexity
& Education' is planned for Thurs 20th May.
We have some interesting speakers in the form of Paul Tosey from
Surrey University, who will be speaking on 'Transformative Learning',
and Stephen Sterling (of Schumacher Briefing fame) will be speaking on
'Sustainable Education'. There will be sideshows from Messrs Innes &
Price, and, no doubt, others.
If you would like to come please do let me know ASAP.
Regards
Jim
