I'd encourage you to go for it. I'm confident that you could do a good
job, based on what I have seen of your writing in various posts.
(I'm also quite confident, even without yet having read it, that the book
is substantially accurate. It is bound to contain small errors - that's
pretty much unavoidable - but I'd be truly shocked to find big problems
in it).
I'll probably try to put out a /. announcement when the standard becomes
official. I put out an announcement (made the /. front page even) when
the CD went out. My attempt to put out a similar announcement for the
DIS was rejected (presumably just the random daily variation of mood of
the /. editors, or maybe I was hitting a different one. Don't know).
I didn't try for the FDIS, particularly as the FDIS vote is basically
yes/no. Which reminds me, I think that was officially supposed to go
out today. (I'm quite upset at the delay in the ISO bureaucracy - it
was given to them 2 months ago. As I sarcastically commented on the WG5
mailing list, I knew it was supposed to be a 2-month ballot, but I
hadn't realized that meant ISO would sit on it for 2 months before
starting the ballot. Oh well.) But the formal release of the standard
seems like it ought to be noteworthy enough.
