Job description
FACULTY OF TECHNOLOGY
School of Computing, Communications and Electronics
A position is available in the School of Computing, Communications and
Electronics to work as a member of the Institute of Digital Art and
Technology (i-DAT) [http://www.i-dat.org]. All appointees will be
expected to pursue innovative research and contribute to teaching and
enterprise activities. Candidates should ideally hold a doctorate
degree with experience of PhD supervision.
i-DAT would be interested in applicants with a background in the
creative application of digital technologies. The applicant must be
able to contribute to a creative production environment and be
committed to an interdisciplinary ethos across the fields of arts and
technology. Specific teaching skill requirements in interactive media
software applications and programming (Flash, Lingo, internet
technologies, etc.) would be an advantage. We are looking for a dynamic
addition to our team with a research background that reflects and
extends our research and teaching interests.
i-DAT (Institute of Digital Art & Technology) is dedicated to exploring
innovative applications of digital technology through collaborations
between artists, academics and researchers in emergent fields of
practice, on a regional, national and international basis.
i-DAT runs courses across the spectrum of higher education provision at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These include BSc MediaLab Arts
[http://www.medialabarts.net], MA/MSc Digital Futures
[http://www.digital-futures.net] (with pathways in curatorial practice,
sonic arts, spatial design and software art), and an association with
the PhD programme characterised as the 'Planetary Collegium'
[http://www.planetary-collegium.net] (directed by Professor Roy
Ascott). Each of these is distinctive as interdisciplinary, hybrid,
practice-based programmes in a School of Computing, Communication and
Electronics. The Planetary Collegium is a growing international network
combining nodes in Zurich, Sydney and Belem, with Plymouth at the hub,
attracting internationally recognised new media practitioners and
post-doctoral researchers.
