Yeah, Lawrence, know what you mean. Although, as I get older, I incline more
towards the cock-up rather than the conspiracy theory, not there aren't
really nasty people out there, but I suspect that overall what we have is
mainly a result of accumulated mishaps. The other week I was talking to a
performance poet from the West Indies, from one of the Lesser Antilles, he
was telling me that the Arts Council had given him this grant, but he had
+no idea+ what it was for. His wife had applied for it on his behalf and he
was the bemused recipient.
I even think this kind of scenario largely applies to politics: yes, for
sure, there are some real shites out there, but for the most what we have is
a product of actions that are uncomprehending of their possible results.
