Dear all,
We have recently upgraded to Bb6 and are still finding our feet with many
of the new options and changes from our previous installation of Bb5.
We have fathomed out many of the options within the Virtual Classroom-
Lecture Hall section, but can't seem to find a way to remove the options
for "breakout rooms".
We are basically, for the moment anyway, advising lecturers to use the
control panel to remove access to everything for passive users, and
obviously allow access to those functions required for active users. That
way, if a students starts to become disruptive, use Group Browser to
display irrelevant web pages etc, they can simply be made passive and the
problem is removed totally, but they are still allowed to view what is
happening within the room. (Better then total expulsion from the room in
my opinion).
What we can't control is the option for any student to set up their
own "breakout room", with only invited guests attending.
Our biggest fear is a virtual classroom session degenerating into total
chaos as all 30 students move into a virtual classroom with full access to
all options and discussing the fashion sense of the lecturer, who is
uninvited to the room and possibly unaware of what is even happening.
Has anybody found a way to remove the breakout rooms altogether? We don't
want to end up turning off the collaborative options totally but we'd
rather that then every lecturer complaining that their courses chatroom
was being used to spread dirty jokes!
Well, we all know what students can be like!
Thanks for your help,
Mark Eason,
ILT Administrator,
Chichester College.
