Forensic Medicine & Science Forum: Historical &
Contemporary Perspectives
The Forensic Medicine & Science Forum will be held on Friday
28th May 2004 at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons
of Glasgow.
The Forum will mark the culmination of the Forensic Medicine
Archives Project, http://www.fmap.archives.gla.ac.uk/ which is
hosted by Glasgow University Archives Services. The Project
(funded through the Wellcome Trust’s and the British Library’s
‘Research Resources in Medical History Scheme’) has surveyed,
processed and developed finding aids for the records of Glasgow
University’s Department of Forensic Medicine and Science from
1839 onwards.
The Forum will appeal to historians, forensic practitioners,
criminologists, archivists, librarians, curators and other interested
parties. Participants will have the opportunity to listen to an
array of expert speakers who will discuss issues relating to
historical and contemporary aspects of forensic medicine and
science. Further details of the Forensic Medicine & Science
Forum Programme and a registration form can be found at:
http://www.fmap.archives.gla.ac.uk/Regular%20Pages/Forum.htm
An exhibition of records surveying some of Glasgow’s
achievements in forensic medicine and science will be on display
in the Royal College’s Lower Library from late April until the
end of May 2004. The exhibition will include records held by
the College and Glasgow University Archives Services, and will
explore the work of John Glaister Senior (1856-1932) and John
Glaister Junior (1892-1971), Regius Professors of Forensic
Medicine at the University of Glasgow.
