For over 5 years now I have been collecting and posting to the US archives and records listservs weekly compilations of news stories related to records and information management. Increasingly the search engines I use are turning up more stories from the UK. down below is the result of last weeks web scouring. It is no problem to collect and post these if these two lists think it is of benefit.

Macworld
QuickTime makeover for Pathe archives
By Macworld staff
Thousands of hours of historical news footage is being encoded into
QuickTime format, and will soon be available on the British Pathe Web site.
According to Apple this will be the first digital news resource of its kind.
The content was originally available only in Windows Media format. Peter
Fydler, who initiated the scheme when employed by Pathe (he is now director
of marketing at ITN's archive) said: "QuickTime 6 is far superior, but it
wasn’t released until Spring 2002. So when we started the coding in 2001,
we had to go with Windows Media 8".

Meet the raider of the lost Vivaldi archives
Feb 27 2004
By Stephen Douglas Daily Post Correspondent
IT IS the kind of moment that most academics spend their
lifetimes dreaming about experiencing once.
But the release this week of the first recording of a
newlyidentified Vivaldi piece will mark the second
discovery of the great Italian composer's lost works by
Liverpool University Professor Michael Talbot.
The 61 year-old don is a leading authority on the famous
composer, and unearthed the 260 year-old musical piece
"Nisi Dominus" while checking through historical
documents.
