Dear List

During February and March TASI offers a wide range of digital imaging
workshops in several UK locations.

Courses cover image capture and optimisation, putting images on the
Web,
using digital cameras, metadata, and digital rights management. Venues
include Bristol, Wolverhampton, and Newcastle upon Tyne.

See below for more information, or visit:
http://www.tasi.ac.uk/training/training.html

- IMAGE OPTIMISATION - Correcting and Preparing Images - Thursday 12
February, Bristol

Introduces skills required for correcting digital images and
preparing them
for future use. This workshop will show suitable techniques and warn
against those that can degrade image quality.

- PUTTING YOUR IMAGES ONLINE - A guide for lecturers - Friday 13
February,
Bristol

A straightforward, practical workshop for those who want to use
digital
images in their teaching but haven't the time or desire to become
imaging
experts. Covers all the steps from capturing images to using them
within
presentations, VLEs and Web sites. (Uses Adobe Photoshop, Extensis
Portfolio and an HTML editor. Suitable for beginners)

- GETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR DIGITAL CAMERA - Tuesday 9 March, Bristol

A practical workshop for those wanting to produce better quality
images
using a compact digital camera. Covers general camera skills as well
as
issues specific to digital cameras. Topics include colour,
calibration,
white balance, lighting and image optimisation (using Adobe
Photoshop).
This workshop is suitable for beginners and includes advice on what
to look
for when choosing a digital camera.

- IMAGE CAPTURE - Beginners - Thursday 18th OR Friday 19th March,
Wolverhampton

Provides an introduction and overview of digital imaging and includes
practical exercises using a scanner and digital camera. (These
workshops
will use Paintshop Pro software)

- CREATING QUALITY METADATA FOR DIGITAL IMAGES - Tuesday 30th March,
Newcastle upon Tyne

To the uninitiated, metadata can seem a dry and complicated issue.
This
workshop takes a lively and practical approach. It considers metadata
schemas and controlled vocabularies and looks at how these can be
used,
pragmatically, within a comprehensive metadata framework for an
imaging
project.

- DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT - Wednesday 31st March, Newcastle upon
Tyne

Offers practical approaches to securing and protecting copyright
within a
digital environment.

... and coming up in April ...

6 April - IMAGE CAPTURE - Intermediate
22 April - IMAGE CAPTURE - Advanced
23rd April - IMAGE MANAGEMENT - Storing and finding your digital
images
