Bristol is a successful European city: a regional capital and a designated
UK centre of cultural excellence. Bristol Record Office is a part of Bristol
City Council 's Cultural Services Division which is playing a lead role in
transforming cultural provision throughout the city by striving to provide
quality services that meet the needs of all in its diverse local communities.
As an integral part of this work, Bristol Record Office for the first time is looking to appoint an Archivist with special responsibility for learning and inclusion.
This exciting and challenging post will involve the development
and promotion of learning programmes and opportunities for a broad
range of audiences, although there will also be the chance to take part in a
wide range of archive work.
You must have a postgraduate qualification in archive administration and
an up-to-date knowledge of the key professional issues affecting the
delivery of a modern archives service. You will need good IT skills and an
understanding of IT applications. You must also be able to work with
learning groups at all levels and at all ages and have the ability to work
with individuals and groups to encourage the development of personal and
community identity. You must be able to demonstrate your commitment to
equalities/ social inclusion policies and their effective implementation.
You should possess demonstrable presentation skills and have experience
or interest in the application of archives for learning together with
experience of working with minority groups and communities. Experience
of partnerships, particularly with Libraries and Museums, is also desirable
as cross-domain working is seen as being crucial to the success of this post.
