Dear Listserver members,
I have just started working on an educational resource project for the
London Metropolitan Archive. THe project, SchooLMAte, is geered mainly
towards schooleavers and provides information on careers in archiving and
related jobs. There will also be a glossary of archive terms for which I
am currently collecting information, facts, figures, statistics, anecdotes
and trivia. I was wondering if any members could tell me about the world's
largest/smallest archives; opening times (I heard that the National
Archive of Canada is open 24 hours a day); the oddest collections or
strange objects kept in an archive; the longest archive in the world;
where I can find out about the history of the archive, how it developed in
the past and the future (Impact of technology/computerised databases?)
Also, where can I find a list of qualifications necessary for a career in
archiving eg. Liverpool's MARM course?
I look forward to hearing any suggestions and comments.
