ARCHIVIST (Wellcome Foundation Archives)

The Wellcome Trust is a world leading charity whose mission is to foster
and promote research with the aim of improving human and animal health. We
are currently seeking an Archivist to manage the cataloguing of the
Wellcome Foundation Archive collection to current professional standards,
and promote its use as a public research resource.
The Trust has augmented its own archives through the acquisition, in 2001,
of the Wellcome Foundation pharmaceutical company archives (including
material from some its subsidiaries), which was originally the Trust’s sole
asset base. Historians and researchers have already begun to use this
unique collection.
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to continue to build a
comprehensive catalogue of the archive. The successful candidate will be
expected to enthusiastically promote the collection and assist users.
This post requires a self-motivated and well-organised person with a good
degree and postgraduate qualification in archive administration. You will
have at least three years experience in a busy archival environment and be
thoroughly familiar with current professional standards and practice. You
should also:
§ Be computer literate with strong attention to detail;
§ Possess excellent communication skills;
§ Enjoy promoting access to archives through a range of activities;
An interest in the history of medicine and/ or experience in the
pharmaceutical sector would be an advantage.
Salary will be on a scale from £22,111 per annum plus benefits. This is a
fixed term contract for 1 year. This vacancy is not being advertised
