1. An introduction to Display

Society of Archivists: Eastern Region Training Event

The event will be of interest to all archivists, but is aimed at those
involved in dealing with exhibitions and displays. No prior knowledge of
either subject is necessary.

The trainer: Lionel Willis is a training designer. Since 1994 he has
worked as a major event organiser, freelance museum designer and is
maritime specialist to Bonhams Auctioneers. Working with the South East
Area Museums Service, he helped prepare the training package on Design in
Small Museums and spends part of his time delivering training packages to
mixed groups around s the country.

Programme features:
The course is aimed at the non-designer, and aims to provide the attendees
with a basic grounding in presenting a display. The topics included are:
should we display items, the types of display that can be used, and how to
aim it at your audience. Also, information on the different text that can
be used and label production. The afternoon sessions will concentrate on
the look and layout and space available, with emphasis on the lighting,
mounts etc. of the overall display.

In order to make the day as relevant as possible, delegates are invited to
submit questions or details of specific problems they have in advance, and
the speaker will try to address them.
Numbers limited to 15
Fee: 70 SoA members / 85 non members
Includes refreshments and lunch
